Smoke bellows around Vicksburg Firefighter Capt. Karl Minor, left, and Kenneth Conley as they spray water on hot spots after an abandoned house on Johnson Street next to Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 746 Johnson St., caught on fire at about 11 Monday night and burned until early this morning. “The house was totally engulfed when we got here,” said Battalion Chief Marion Cole. Firefighters from Central Fire Station and Fire Department No. 7 were dispatched. The house was destroyed, said fire investigator Leslie Decareaux. The cause remained under investigation.
