A 75-year-old Carriere man was killed when his motorcycle collided head-on with another vehicle Wednesday afternoon on Mississippi 27 near Utica.

Ronald Zamsky, 75 Live Oaks Drive, was traveling north when his Yamaha motorcycle veered into the southbound lane, hitting a silver Dodge van driven by Sherry Smith, 61, of Hot Springs, Ark., said Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol spokesman Sgt. James Walker.

The wreck was reported about 2 p.m. near Mississippi 27 and Cook Road, about 9 miles north of Utica.

Zamsky was pronounced dead at the scene, said Hinds County Coroner Sammy White, who sent the body to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

“We’re not sure whether or not there was a medical problem that caused him to have the accident or if he died from his injuries,” White said.

Investigators have not determined why Zamsky may have crossed into oncoming traffic. White said Zamsky’s brother was also on a motorcycle, traveling ahead of him, and looked back in the mirror and saw the smoke from the wreck. The brother said Zamsky was not known to have any health problems.

Smith was traveling with two other women, the coroner said. Their names and addresses were not available.

Smith was treated and released from River Region Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. White said the other women were not believed to be seriously injured.
