If you go
The Vicksburg Art Association’s fall show will open at 8 p.m. Oct. 24 with a reception. Registration will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 and from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19. The works will remain on display at the Constitution Firehouse Gallery, Main and Openwood streets, until 8 p.m. Oct. 28. The entry fee is $15 for members and $30 for nonmembers. For information, call 601-638-9221.
“There will be a wide variety of artists entering in a wide variety of categories,” said Donna Saunders, chairman of the event.
The show will kick off with registration from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 and from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 19. An opening reception will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 24, and the exhibit will be on display through 4 p.m. Oct. 28. Events will be at the VAA’s headquarters, the Constitution Firehouse Gallery at Main and Openwood streets.
Categories include oil, watercolor, print, 3D, photograph-monochrome, photograph-color, acrylic, drawing, fiber and mixed-media. The fall show does not have a theme, unlike the VAA’s spring show.
Awards will be given for Best-in-Show, which comes with a $500 cash award, and ribbons for first, second and third place, along with honorable mentions.
The entry fee is $15, and the show is open to artists 18 and older. VAA nonmembers must pay an additional $15, which grants them membership to the organization. All art is also required to be for sale, and the VAA will retain a 15-percent commission fee.
“You can get high quality art for a good price,” said VAA president Leslie Horton. “It’s amazing all the talent we have here in Mississippi.” Saunders said, “There will be several hundred entries. People painted and drew in the summer, so we’re looking forward to a good show.”
The VAA hosts three major shows a year — the fall show, a Christmas show and a spring show. The organization has monthly meetings, with the next set for Oct. 13 at the Firehouse. Regional artist Bebe Wolfe will speak.
