Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the dedication of the 62-foot-tall Illinois Memorial, an icon of the Vicksburg National Military Park. On Sunday, as on most days throughout each year, visitors from across the country and other countries could be seen at the memorial to the 36,000 soldiers from Illinois who fought in Vicksburg during the Siege of Vicksburg.
