A Utica man and Vicksburg woman were taken to River Region Medical Center Saturday night following a near head-on collision on Wisconsin Avenue that left one car in the ditch and debris scattered over the roadway.
William Turner, 52, 6348 Mississippi 27, Utica, was eastbound around 7:58 p.m. when his white 2001 Pontiac Grand Am struck a black 1985 Pontiac Parisienne driven by Marcella Coleman, 57, 895 National St., a witness said.
Vicksburg Police Sgt. Jackie Johnson said the cause remained under investigation.
Coleman had five passengers in her vehicle, including three children, said her daughter and passenger, Marcella McCormick.
“We were coming up the road and, all of a sudden, his car swerved over the center line and hit us,” said McCormick.
Turner, who had no passengers in his vehicle, was taken to the hospital. One of Coleman’s passengers, Leona Chute of Kentucky — who was in Vicksburg to celebrate a birthday — was also taken to the hospital, said McCormick. Coleman’s vehicle ended up in the south ditch of the roadway, while Turner’s car remained on the roadway, about 100 yards west of Porters Chapel Road. Both vehicles were significantly damaged.
Turner and Coleman were being treated Saturday night.
