BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — With the M-Braves leading 3-2, Birmingham scored two runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to hand the M-Braves their fifth consecutive loss, 7-3, on Thursday night.
The M-Braves did something they haven’t done much of lately at Regions Park — they scored first. With one out in the opening frame, Brandon Hicks walked. After Jason Heyward’s single, Hicks came around to score when Freddie Freeman reached on a fielder’s choice. With two outs in the inning, Freeman scored on a double by Greg Creek to put the M-Braves on top, 2-0. When Young walked and scored on a sac-fly by Heyward in the third, the M-Braves were on top 3-0. From that point, it was all Birmingham.
The comeback started when the Barons got two runs on one hit in the fourth.
The comeback was completed one inning later when the Barons plated five runs on five hits for a 7-3 lead. Kyle Cofield (5-3) got the start for the Braves and gave up seven runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Three M-Braves’ relievers combined to hold the Barons scoreless over the final 3 1/3 innings.
