Annie L. Barnes Willis

Services for Annie L. “Sugar” Barnes Willis will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clover Valley M.B. Church with the Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home, with family hour from 5 until 6, and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Willis died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. She was 83.
Born in Claiborne County, Mrs. Willis had lived in Vicksburg most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member and mother of Clover Valley M.B. Church. She was also a member of the Warren County Extension Service.
Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Willis Sr.; her parents, Thomas and Alice Ellis Barnes; two sons, Floyd Willis and Willie James Willis; two brothers, Thomas Barnes and Jimel Barnes; four sisters, Frances Johnson, Carrie Hall, Maggie Burns and Mattie Hill; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include five sons, Melvin L. Willis Jr. of East St. Louis, Ill., and Wilbert E. Willis, Edward L. Willis, Johnnie L. Willis and Cedric D. Willis, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Verna Mae Johnson of New Orleans, Maxine Smith of Jackson, Jo Ann Willis of Greenwood and Carolyn J. Bolls and Wanda Gail Bracey, both of Vicksburg; one brother, Leroy Barnes of Utica; two sisters, Katie Joseph of New Orleans and Judy Goins of Detroit; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Bobbie Willis, Carcenia Sanders, Roberta Prentiss, Shannon Rooks, Sharon Jackson and Henry Willis.
