Susan and Howard Johnson of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Denise, to Ernest Wesley Mathes Jr. Mr. Mathes is the son of Karen and Ernest Mathes Sr. of Dentville.

Miss Johnson is the granddaughter of Raymond Lynn, Doris Tart, James Tart, O.L. “Buddy” Johnson and the late Ruth Johnson.

The bride-elect is a 2006 graduate of Porters Chapel Academy, where she was a member of the softball and basketball teams. She was named Miss PCA and Sweetheart Queen and was chosen The Vicksburg Post’s fastpitch softball player of the year.

She received an associate degree from Hinds Community College, where she was a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

Miss Johnson is a student at Mississippi College.

The prospective groom is a 2003 graduate of Copiah Academy, where he was a member of the baseball, track and basketball teams. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Mississippi College.

Mr. Mathes is employed at Briggs Equipment.

The wedding will be at 2 p.m. July 18, 2009, at Pinebluff Baptist Church in Dentville. A reception will follow at the church.
