Weekend benefit set for fire victims
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, June 10, 2009
Gospel songs will fill the air Saturday in support of Trey and Jennifer Smith, the Vicksburg couple whose young sons were killed in a house fire in May.
In an event sponsored by Warren County Volunteer Fire Departments and Calvary Baptist Church, money will be raised in the community’s continuing efforts to help the family whose home at 811 Sherman Ave. was destroyed in the fire.
The parents, Jennifer and Trey Smith — a volunteer firefighter himself — were treated at University Medical Center in Jackson later on the day of the fire, May 16.
Killed in the fire were 4-year-old Tyler and 22-month-old Hadyn Smith.
Saturday’s concert and other events at Calvary Baptist Church, 2878 Old Highway 27, will begin at 10 a.m.; an auction of homemade cakes will be at 1 p.m.; and an auction of donated items will begin at 3 p.m. Pork sandwiches will be served beginning at 10 a.m.
In addition, pork sandwich plates will be available at noon on Friday for delivery to businesses.
An account for donations to the family was opened at Trustmark bank following the tragedy.
