Louvinia Smith died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Promise Hospital. She was 89.
Born in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Homer Tompkins and Evelyn Edwards Tompkins. Having served many years in civil service, she retired as a realty specialist for the Vicksburg District.
A published author who loved to travel, she was an active participant of the Vicksburg Senior Center and a member of the Vicksburg Garden Club. She attended First Christian Church.
A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with an infinite smile and joy for life, we will miss her greatly.
She is survived by two daughters, Dani McAneny and her husband, Colin, of Vicksburg and Jan Smith of Pace, Fla.; grandchildren, Joy Langdon, Karen Spivey, Rusty Ragsdale, Deborah Ragsdale Shafer, David Tommy Smith and Stephen Smith; great-grandchildren, David Spivey, Kelsey Langdon, Christopher Smith, Tiffanie Smith, Liz Smith, David Smith, Brittany Smith, Nicholas Smith and Hannah Smith; and a host of friends at the Vicksburg Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Daniel Smith Sr.; son, David Daniel Smith Jr.; and brothers, Leo Tompkins, Chris Tompkins, Otto Tompkins, Clarence Tompkins and Henry Tompkins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Nation, rector of The Church of The Holy Trinity, Episcopal, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service at Riles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Colin McAneny, Duane Spivey, Rusty Ragsdale, David Tommy Smith and Stephen Smith.
