The Vicksburg Ashmead Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution won three national awards from the Junior American Citizens. They honors were presented July 24 at the Heartland District Meeting in Vicksburg.
The group received first place in scrapbook pages, first place for JAC promotion and third place for most inches in JAC publicity. It also received a Southeastern Division Certificate for providing creative learning experiences for Children of the American Revolution Society.
TK Soul fan club seeking members
The TK Soul Undisputed Fan Club will celebrate its second anniversary with an appreciation party Saturday at the Elks Lodge on U.S. 61 South.
The party is for members and invited guests, but, this month, the club is seeking new members. Formed in 2007, the club aims to promote community service, and requires it of its members.

VAA to celebrate 40th at Firehouse
The Vicksburg Art Association, in celebration of its 40th year of being headquartered at the Constitution Firehouse, will present a program Sept. 8.
The event will coincide with the association’s first meeting of the 2009-10 season.
At 7:30 p.m. at the Firehouse, located at Main and Openwood streets, six artists will show their renditions of the historic building.

Pastels workshop set at gallery in Monroe
The Ouachita River Art Gallery in West Monroe is offering a pastels workshop led by Greg Biolchini.
The event is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12-16 at the Kiroli Park Lodge. The fee is $400 per person with a $100 deposit. Space is limited.
Biolchini will teach students wet and dry techniques.

Rags to Riches Tour Saturday in Tupelo
The third annual Rags to Riches Tour, hosted by the Tupelo Automobile Museum, will be Saturday.
Cruisers are invited to drive their classic cars from the museum, starting at 7 a.m., to the Olive Branch City Hall, along U.S. 78, for registration.
Cruisers can visit Elvis Presley’s birthplace and the Poteet’s Ford Farm while on the tour.
The fee is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 7-12 and free for those younger than 7, A barbecue lunch will be provided to the first 120 pre-registered participants.
