Tops of trees on the bank of the Mississippi River just south of Clark Street are barely visible above the waterline as the river continues its rise to its projected crest of 46 feet on May 23. The flood level at Vicksburg is 43 feet and the river, fed by storms in the lower Mississippi River Basin, rose a half-foot since Thursday to a stage of 44.2 this morning.
