Kindergartners at Sherman Avenue Elementary, from left, Marisa Becerra, Jaylen Hicks, Jamie Ward and Charles Holmes III, plant a Japanese maple tree Thursday. Beginning Wednesday, Earth Day, grades K-3 planted 27 trees and flowers that included petunias, marigolds and impatiens. Each class will water the plants twice a week. Marisa is the daughter of Sergio Becerra and Yvonne Dupre; Jaylen is the son of John Hicks and Stacy Loud; Jamie is the daughter of Jessica Ward; and Charles is the son of Charles Holmes Jr. and Sharron Banks.
