Robert Marshall Sanders

LYON — Robert Marshall “Sarge” Sanders died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. He was 62.

Mr. Sanders graduated from H.V. Cooper High School and attended Hinds Junior College. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Vietnam in the special forces as a combat medic. He received a Purple Heart, bronze star and meritorious medal.

He was retired from Sam’s Town and was a U.S. Army recruiter. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 3936.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Smith Sanders of Lyon; a daughter, Jessica Sanders of Lyon; and a son, Matthew Sanders of Fort Richardson, Alaska.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. Burial followed at Oakridge Cemetery.
