3 burglaries on Clay Street believed linked

A second teen has been identified by Vicksburg police as a suspect in a shoe store burglary, and that break-in has been linked with one a nearby T-shirt shop and at a nearby dollar store.

“Some of the characteristics at the crime scenes are similar,” said Lt. Bobby Stewart.

The second teen has not been arrested, Stewart said, because he has not been found. The first, one of two spotted inside Payless Shoe Source, 1500 Clay St., at 2 a.m. Friday, remained in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.

The two were among four reported by passers-by to be in and around the store.

The shoe store burglary came five days after four juveniles were captured on surveillance equipment walking along nearby Hays Street, pushing a full grocery cart, just after about $4,300 in merchandise was stolen from Maurice’s T-Shirts at 2121 Clay St. The T-shirt shop is six blocks east of the shoe store. Some of the merchandise was found strewn on adjoining Grove Street. The teens could not be identified because of the quality of the video.

One block farther east, Dollar General is at 2203 Clay St. Six cell phones were reported stolen from the store on Aug. 16.

Stewart said the three burglaries are believed to be connected.

However, he said he does not think the three are connected to the attempted burglary at the FoodMaxx grocery store at 2785 N. Washington St. on Saturday.

In that case, patrolman saw two males in their late teens or early 20s wearing dark clothes running from the store north on Washington Street but made no arrests, Stewart said.

Again, officials were unable to identify suspects in surveillance video because of poor quality.
