William Warren Lassiter III

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — William Warren Lassiter III died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was 66.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral Church of the Advent with visitation at 10 in Clingman Commons.
Warren Lassiter was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Vicksburg to Marie Calhoun Wailes Lassiter and William Warren Lassiter Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marie Wailes Smith of Louise, Miss.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Glynn Hardwick Lassiter and his children, Elizabeth Lassiter Fitzpatrick (Noah) of Birmingham, Lucy Lassiter Raley of Dallas and Capt. William Warren Lassiter IV (U.S. Army) of Fort Campbell, Ky.; his five precious grandchildren, Noah Jack Fitzpatrick V, James Cowan Fitzpatrick and Robert Warren Lassiter, all of Birmingham, and Annabelle Glynn Raley and Charles Beauregard Raley of Dallas; his four sisters, Ann Wailes Buchanan of Jackson, Jane Wailes Derivaux and Sally Wailes, both of Vicksburg and Judy Lassiter Kincannon of Hattiesburg; his two brothers, Robert Preston Wailes Jr. (Martha) and Francis Marion Lassiter of New Orleans; his sister-in-law, Frances Hardwick Hairston of Crawford, Miss; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Warren graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in Vicksburg and then attended All Saints’ College. He graduated from Mississippi State University where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. His first job took him and his wife to Birmingham, where he worked out of the regional office of the Comptroller of the Currency for 11 years. He then joined First Alabama Bank (Regions), where he started their loan review program. After spending 10 years in Montgomery, Ala., he returned to Birmingham in 1995. At the time of his retirement in 2006, he was chief credit officer of Regions Financial Corporation. Warren’s greatest joy in the banking field was mentoring young professionals. After retirement, he enjoyed dividing his time between his homes in Vicksburg and Birmingham.
Warren was a faithful member of the Cathedral Church of the Advent, where he served as chalice bearer and an Advent House Intercessor. He also renewed his fellowship at Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal, in Vicksburg. Warren loved watching birds, being in the woods, listening to classical music, visiting with friends and cheering on his grandchildren. A man of uncommon integrity, empathy and charity who fought his illness for many years without complaining, his memory will be treasured by his family and friends, whom he dearly loved.
The family wishes to thank his doctors and nurses of St. Vincent’s and the clergy of the Advent and Trinity for their special care.
