A St. Joseph man died Thursday following a one-vehicle accident at Lake Bruin.
Joseph Simpson, 23, was headed south on Louisiana 606 when he lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet pickup and ran into a ditch, a release from the Louisiana State Police, Troop F, said.
Simpson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the driver’s seat during the crash, which resulted in the pickup rolling over several times. Simpson died at the Franklin Parish Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, the release said.
The state police said toxicology results are pending to determine if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
Simpson was a farmer who lived on Louisiana 605, the road that circles the outside of the 3,000-acre oxbow lake, Tensas Parish Sheriff Ricky Jones said.
It is the first fatal wreck in more than a year in Tensas Parish, Jones said. None was reported in 2008, he said.
Three fatal wrecks have been investigated in 2009 in Troop F’s territory, which covers 12 northeast Louisiana parishes.
