Movers and shakers in the music and political worlds will, via satellite, lead a leadership summit at a Jackson-area church.

Pinelake Church in Brandon will be the only location in Mississippi to host the National Leadership Conference, set for Aug. 6-7. National and international personalities, such as former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, U2 lead singer Bono and Vicksburg native and author Dr. Henry Cloud, will speak about effective leadership.

The 14th annual event will be broadcast on “movie-sized screens” from the Willow Creek Association, a worldwide interdenominational network of 12,000 churches, based in South Barrington, Ill., a suburb of Chicago.

“This is the first year for Pinelake to be the host site,” said Steve Campbell, small groups pastor and organizer of the summit.

Campbell describes the event as “a chance to re-energize government, business and church leaders” since people are “dying for leaders.”

“We hope to have 300 to 500 in attendance,” Campbell said. “We have 127 already registered.”

The goal is to develop stronger leaders.

“This event is for Christian leaders, but has appeal for other community members,” Campbell said. “But, predominantly, it is for church leaders.”

Pinelake Church is a Baptist mega-church with three campuses — in Brandon, Ridgeland and Clinton.
