Change of command set for Vicksburg District

Col. Jeffrey Eckstein will be become 51st commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, during a change-of-command ceremony Dec. 15, a release from the District said.
Eckstein will receive the Command Flag from Col. Michael C. Wehr at the Cairo Gunboat and Museum at the Vicksburg National Military Park. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Vicksburg Convention Center.
Due to limited parking at the Cairo, those wanting at attend are asked to park at the District’s headquarters, 4155 East Clay St., where transportation will be provided.
Wehr has commanded the District since 2007, succeeding Col. Anthony Vesay.
Districts such as Vicksburg and others in St. Paul, Minn., Rock Island, Ill., St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans compose the Mississippi Valley Division and plan and oversee work assigned by the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project. District commanders report to the MVD’s commander, Brig. Gen. Michael Walsh.
