A Vicksburg woman died at a Jackson hospital Sunday from injuries she suffered in a car wreck Wednesday on Mission 66.

Florence Amborn, 90, 1708 East Ave., was pronounced dead at 10:52 a.m. at University Medical Center, Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said. He said her death was directly attributed to the wreck.

Amborn was taken to UMC after the 2001 Buick Century she was driving south on Mission 66 collided with a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire that Stephanie Stewart, 38, 2001 Rainey Drive, was turning from Mission into a driveway at 1907 Mission 66, according to Sgt. Jackie Johnson of the Vicksburg Police Department.

The accident was the second fatal Vicksburg wreck in less than a week. Brelyn Shirnita Gross, 24, died Tuesday in a one-car accident on U.S. 61 South near Dana Road.

Amborn’s son Bobby said he would remember his mother as a “kind, caring, selfless woman who cared for her friends and cared for the elderly. We were fortunate to have her as our mother.”

A Vicksburg native and former federal government employee, Florence Amborn is survived by four children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, he said.

Arrangements are being handled by Riles Funeral Home, Huskey said.
