A Vicksburg man and a juvenile were being held this morning for breaking into and vandalizing Porters Chapel Academy nearly two weeks ago.

The man, identified as Jamie Gray, 19, 4813 Nailor Road, Lot 24, and the juvenile, whose identity was not public because of his age, were being questioned at the Vicksburg Police Department at 10 a.m., investigator Brad Derrington said.

They are accused of breaking into the private school during the night of Jan. 21 and using at least one baseball bat to break through doors and scatter paperwork throughout the school’s offices. Classes at the Porters Chapel Road school were canceled on Jan. 22.

Derrington said the two, who are believed to not be students there or have any other ties to the school, surrendered this morning to police after officers received tips connecting them to the crimes.

Charges against the adult are burglary and malicious mischief. The case of the juvenile, who had been charged only with trespassing this morning, will be handled in Warren County Youth Court. He was being held at the Warren County Youth Detention Center.

Gray was being held at police headquarters this morning.
