2 women arrested for meth charges

Two Vicksburg women were charged with possession of precursors to crystal methamphetamine Tuesday afternoon following a traffic stop at U.S. 61 South and Cain Ridge Road, police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Marcia Purvis, 22, 76 Purvis Hill Road, and Amanda Harris, 24, 4 Summit Ridge Drive, were released from the Warren County Jail on a $2,500 bond each.

A reward of an undetermined amount is being offered by the Vicksburg Police Department for information in a burglary and vandalism at Porters Chapel Academy.

Investigator Brad Derrington asks anyone with information to call 601-218-7560 or e-mail bradd@vicksburg.org.

Vandalism that included the destruction of doors and papers scattered during the night Thursday forced the school to cancel classes on Friday.

Fire destroys five buildings

Five buildings including a home and a business were destroyed in a fire late Monday night at Jackson and Second North streets.

At about 11:44 p.m., blazes that originated at an unoccupied building at 1005 Second North spread to Lowe & Lowe Grocery, 1001 Second North St., two vacant buildings at 1506 and 1507 Jackson St., and the home of Robert Bass at 1007 Second North St., next door, Vicksburg fire Chief Mark Hales said.

“His house caught fire from being too close to the main fire,” said Hales.

Bass, his wife and brother-in-law were not injured.

Hales, whose department did not release information about the fire until this morning, said the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s office was contacted to assist in the investigation due to number of structures involved. The cause was unknown.

3 auto burglaries reported in city

Three auto burglaries were reported in Vicksburg Monday and Tuesday, police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

An owner’s manual and registration were reported stolen from a 2003 Toyota in the 1500 block of Bodley Street at 6:23 p.m. Monday.

A wallet with a credit card was reported stolen from a 2004 Chevrolet in the 600 block of Cain Ridge Road at 11:24 a.m. Monday.

A Sony CD player and LG phone were reported stolen from a 1991 Nissan Stanza in the 1300 block of Spring Street at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Separately, Weattherly Corporation, a business at 2133 Washington St., reported seven credit cards missing at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Williams said.

Electronics, guns, cash missing in county

Weapon,s tools and electronics were among items missing in Warren County Tuesday, records showed.

A .22-caliber Ruger long rifle valued at about $294 was reported stolen from a Toyota pickup in the 3600 block of Tiffentown Road at 7:16 a.m.

A 2-inch Dewalt planer valued at $900, an air compressor valued at $100, tools valued at $100, a 6-inch saw valued at $50 and a Boston stapler valued at $25 were reported stolen from property in the 9000 block of Youngton Road at 10 a.m.

An Xbox 360 valued at about $200 and a Kodak digital camera valued at $100 were reported stolen from the 1500 block of Oak Ridge Road at 11:03 a.m.

About $1,200 and a 32-inch LCD flat screen valued at $700 were reported stolen from a home in the 4300 block of Oak Ridge Road at 1:37 p.m.

Four T-shirts valued at $15, about $30 in change, two DVDs together valued at $40 were reported stolen from a home in the 300 block of Dogwood Lake Drive at 6:03 p.m.

A Bersa .380 semi-automatic handgun valued at $375 and a .22-caliber H&R revolver valued at $375 were missing from a 2008 Toyota Tacoma in the 10 block of Indian Hills Drive at 7:10 p.m
