A Vicksburg woman was arrested at her home Tuesday and charged with arson in a fire that left three Grove Street families without homes.
Zenobia Smith, 30, 1415 High St., is accused of setting fire to Apartment B at 2232 Grove St. on July 1, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
Smith, who once lived at the address, had moved out of the home some time before the fire, Williams said.
Residents of the four-unit building owned by Roy Miller of Springfield, Mo., had escaped from their homes before firefighters and police arrived, Williams said. No injuries were reported.
Vicksburg Fire Inspector Leslie Decareaux said three families were displaced from the fire that left all four apartments uninhabitable, two heavily damaged and two with smoke damage.
“Nighttime is the worst time to have a fire because everyone is asleep,” said Decareaux.
Smith was released from the Warren County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
The arson arrest was the second local one in two days. Johnny Ray Galey, 54, was charged Monday in the Saturday morning arson at his home at 9960 U.S. 61 South.
Arrested by Warren County deputies, Galey remained in the Warren County Jail this morning on a $50,000 bond.
