The fundraiser for the relatives of James “Jimmy” Shivers III, who died Feb. 3 after illness and seizures, was held Thursday night at the Tallulah Country Club, said brother Shannon Shivers. About 200 people attended.

“I think it was wonderful,” Shivers said. “That’s one thing about living in a small town — everybody knows you and everybody tries to help.”

Shivers, 44, served the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office for 20 years before his death. He was chief of operations at the sheriff’s office and a warden for the Madison Parish Detention Center and the Louisiana Transitional Center for Women. Shivers taught youth gun safety classes, was a Crisis Intervention instructor and was on the Madison Parish S.W.A.T. Team.

James “Jimmy” Shivers III was the son of James and Tiki Shivers. He was the husband of Laura Ann Shivers and the father of Amanda, James “Jes IV and Brelynne.
