Grace M. Porter

Mrs. Grace M. Porter, age 89, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at River Region. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Valley Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Purser and the Rev. Dennis Salley officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Burial will be at Straight Bayou Cemetery in Straight Bayou, Miss.
Mrs. Porter was born in Straight Bayou and had been a resident of Valley Park since 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Clifton Porter, in 1955. She raised her three children on a small farm in Valley Park. After she had raised her children, she was employed for a number of years at Rolling Fork High School.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she always put God first and then her family. She was a member of the Issaquena County Farm Bureau and the Home Demonstration Club. She was a very active longtime member of Valley Park Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Maude Pierce, Beulah Porter and Jane King; and four brothers, A.J. McDuff, Shelton McDuff, Herbert McDuff and James McDuff.
She is survived by her son, Clifton Porter and wife Hope of Fitler; her daughters, Eloise Graham and husband Jerry and Peggy Holliday and husband Sanford of Vicksburg; her brother, Wayne McDuff and wife Katherine of Greenville; grandchildren, Lisa Scott of Rolling Fork, Leslie Chisholm of Madison, Lara Durn of Cleveland, Sherry Whitaker of Redwood and Porter Holliday of Vicksburg; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Clifton and Hope Porter, Eloise and Jerry Graham, Peggy and Sanford Holliday, Porter Holliday, Lisa and Randy Scott, Leslie and Wayne Chisholm, Lara Durn and Tri Hill and Sherry and Wesley Whitaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. George Abraham, Dr. McLean Jarmon, Dr. V.N. Shenoy, Dr. Lara Clement, Kathy Yelverton, the Friendship Sunday school class of Valley Park Baptist Church and the nurses on the East and North wings of the sixth floor and in ICU at River Region Hospital.
