James Leon Nevels Jr.

James Leon Nevels Jr. died Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 73.
Mr. Nevels was a lifelong resident of Lorman, a Fayette police officer and Jefferson County constable. He worked for Bechtel Inc. as a laborer during the construction of Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Station, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving as president of the parish council, and the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Nevels was preceded in death by his parents, James Leon Nevels Sr. and Theresa F. Nevels; and a son, William Nevels.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nevels of Lorman; three sons, Richard Nevels of Brookhaven and James Nevels III and Aldis “Bubba” Nevels, both of Lorman; four daughters, Frances Fowler of Jackson, Effie House, Brenda Scott and Rosemary Nevels, all of Lorman; a sister, Theresa Anderson of Lorman; and 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Gibson, with the Rev. Lincoln Dall officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Pallbearers are Randy Arnold, Ray Smith, Chris Henson, Charles Strittman, Richard Coleman, Daniel Case, Adrian Ward and Leroy Peshaeff. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Stewart, James Nevels and Adam Fowler.
