Mississippi’s castle doctrine means the suspect in a convenience store homicide will not face charges, District Attorney Ricky Smith said.
Dominic Rashad Turner, 19, 202 Easy St., had been charged by police with murder in the death of Derrick Stamps, who died Feb. 14 of multiple gunshot wounds fired outside at the Exxon Jubilee on Mission 66 and Clay Street around 1 a.m.
Grand jurors reviewing the case returned a no-bill, finding that Turner acted lawfully in self-defense.
