Venom drops two at USSSA Series

The Vicksburg Venom’s tough run continued Friday at the USSSA Global Sports World Series in Memphis.

Two Venom errors and two walks in the bottom of the fifth inning allowed the Oklahoma Cubs to rally for a 3-2 in the first game of the day. In the afternoon, the Venom was blanked 10-0 by the LA Express, a team based in Lansing, Mich.

Taft Nesmith pitched three perfect innings for the Venom against Oklahoma. He also doubled, and had one of the team’s two hits in the loss to LA Express. Tyler Smith singled for the other hit against the Express.

Matthew Register added another double for the Vicksburg squad against Oklahoma.

The losses dropped the Venom to 1-3 in pool play. They’ll open double-elimination bracket play today at 9 a.m. against Cherokee Baseball Academy. The Venom beat Cherokee 9-5 on Thursday in pool play.
