Hubert W. Hearn

Hubert W. Hearn died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 90.
Mr. Hearn was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps serving during World War II. He was a firefighter for most of his life. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 20 years of service as chief of the fire department and from the City of Vicksburg Fire Department as chief. He was a part-time farmer and a member of First Christian Church in Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Acie and Maggie Cockrell Hearn; a brother; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Betty F. Hearn of Vicksburg; a daughter Sara Baker of Vicksburg; a son, Jim E. Hearn of Vicksburg; two sisters, Margaret Cockrell of Vicksburg and Dollie Mae Taylor of Gulfport; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. David Felty officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Hearn, Chris Hearn, Michael Baker, Tony Baker, Joshua McKay, Jamie McKay, Mike Foley, Bobby Foley and Chuck Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Schaffer Smith, Martin Pace, Tim Beatty, Le Bo Tolliver, Josh Roy, Jack Hearn, Paul Alderman, John Oakes, Nathan Oakes, First Christian church Sunday school class, Sister Robin Houser RSM, Sister Patricia Finnegan RSM and members of the Vicksburg Fire Department.
