St. Aloysius was denied a playoff berth last season with a loss to Sebastopol in the season finale.

With a chance to pay back the Bobcats, the Flashes played their best game of the season and crushed Sebastopol 21-7 in Sebastopol on Friday.

The victory gave St. Al’s seniors a measure of revenge and gave the Flashes (5-6, 3-4 Region 4-1A) a boost going into the off-season. It also ended Sebastopol’s playoff hopes.

“We got on them early,” St. Aloysius coach B.J. Smithhart said. “I’m really proud of the kids. We definitely played our best game of the year. It’s a great way for our seniors to go out. They really wanted it tonight and they showed our young guys how to win and finish.”

The Flashes mauled Sebastopol with 330 rushing yards split between three backs.

“Carlton Campbell, Ford (Biedenharn) and Mac (Jones) really ran the ball well tonight,” Smithhart said. “They didn’t know who to key on.”

Senior quarterback Biedenharn got the Flashes on the board first with a short touchdown run. In the second, Jones shook loose on a 60-yard run to give St. Al a 13-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, it was more of the same. Jones scored a 5-yard touchdown run and Biedenharn hooked up with Shelton Headley for a two-point conversion to make it 21-0.

Sebastopol (5-6, 3-4) scored on its next drive, but St. Al’s defense pitched a shutout to hold on for the win. Biedenharn got an interception on a desperation heave on the last play of the contest.

Smithhart believes that the best is yet to come for the Flashes, who started plenty of underclassmen.

“I think these guys are going to have some confidence with a year under their belts,” Smithhart said. “We’ve still got a lot of improvement and work to do, but I know these kids will keep working hard.”
