To Vicksburg with Love, presented by Pi Alpha Kappa sorority, will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. Tickets are $12 per person and include entertainment and lunch. Call 601-631-2997 for reservations.

The catered event is set for noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the SCHC. Tickets are $12 per person, and proceeds will benefit scholarships offered by PAK.

Piano and accordion player Janusc Szlubowska will entertain.

Szlubowska and his wife, Danuta — immigrants from Poland — are recognized and acclaimed as outstanding international performers, Koury said. They have bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both in piano performance, from the Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Their daughter, Marta Szlubowska, is the concert mistress for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Danuta Szlubowska teaches piano at Millsaps College.

The event will also feature a U.S. flag presentation to the SCHC in honor of Ellis Koury, Frances Koury’s husband and the unofficial “mayor of Washington Street.” The Kourys operated a children’s clothing store in downtown Vicksburg. Ellis Koury died last year at age 94.

The flag is a gift from a Denmark couple, Henning and Ingre Deichman. They met Ellis Koury through the Kourys’ daughter Kathy Koury Knudsen, who was chief designer for more than 17 years at the Deichman’s company, Evita Peroni Inc. The families have kept in touch through the years.

While the Deichman’s will not attend Tuesday’s event, Frances Koury will present the flag to SCHC Executive Director Annette Kirklin.

“Mr. and Mrs. Deichman have chosen such a fitting tribute to honor those who fought under this flag and dedicate it to the memory of Ellis Koury,” Frances Koury said. “From Denmark to Mississippi — To Vicksburg with Love.”
