Kroger shopper mugged in parking lot, purse stolen

A Kroger shopper told police that she was mugged and that her purse was stolen as she attempted to load groceries into her car Tuesday night.
The woman said her purse, valued at $60, and the $10 inside it were taken by a person she described as a slender black man wearing a red-yellowish hooded sweatshirt, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
She said the man ran on foot southwest toward Taco Bell from the store at 3408 Pemberton Square Blvd. just after the attack at 8:07.
The woman was not injured. The manager for the store did not return a phone call this morning.
Shots reported fired at 2 Alcorn apartments
Two apartments at one complex were shot Tuesday night, and city police were looking for help in solving the crime.
Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said two next-door residents in the complex at 2727 Alcorn Drive reported hearing four shots at about 9:26 p.m. One victim reported hearing glass break in the home.
Patrolmen found a broken window and a bullet hole in one unit and two bullet holes in the front wall of the other, Stewart said.
No injuries were reported.
Stewart said police have not identified suspects and are encouraging anyone with information about the shooting to contact police headquarters at 601-636-2511.
City teen charged in auto burglary
A Vicksburg teen was arrested Tuesday for an auto burglary reported Saturday.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested at 2:48 p.m. in the 200 block of Tully Street for taking a Samsung cell phone from a 2000 Saturn SL in the same area, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
The owner told police she believed the juvenile had the phone, which was recovered during the arrest, Stewart said.
The teen was released to his parents.
Separately, a car burglary was reported in the 1800 block of Skipland Drive Tuesday afternoon, Stewart said.
At 2:55 p.m., a Rossi .38-caliber handgun valued at $250 and a Scorpion flashlight valued at $50 were reported stolen from an unlocked 2008 Honda Accord.
Car, game system missing in county
In Warren County, a car and a game system were among items reported missing Tuesday, records showed.
A white 1998 Toyota Camry with Tinker Bell seat covers and valued at $2,800 was reported stolen from a home in the 500 block of Berryman Road at 5:40 p.m.
A PlayStation 3 valued at $300 and a set of throwing knives were reported stolen from a home in the 900 block of Blossom Lane at 3:05 p.m.
City woman jailed for drug court violation
A Vicksburg woman was in the Warren County Jail today on a drug court violation, records showed.
Martha Stephens, 62, 510 Bazinsky Road, Apartment 3G, was being held without bond.
Four people injured in three wrecks
Four people were injured in car wrecks in the city and county Monday and Tuesday, according to information provided by the Vicksburg Fire Department, which operates the local emergency ambulance service.
• Marilyn Brewer, 69, 807 Patton St., was in a one-car accident on Interstate 20 West at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday.
• Lamont Rogers, 29, 1950 Hope St., was a passenger in a wreck near 2800 Clay St. at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday.
• Robert Evans, 41, 1350 Old Highway 49, Florence, was the driver of a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am that ran off the road on the northbound lane of Fisher Ferry Road near Goodrum Roat at 8:31 p.m. Monday.
A passenger, Mary C. Evans, 77, of the same address, also was injured.
Brewer, Rogers and Robert Evans were treated and released from River Region Medical Center, spokesman Allen Karel said.
A report on Mary Evans’ condition was not available this morning.
