A Vicksburg Police raid on a suspected drug dealer in south Vicksburg netted nearly $30,000 in drugs, cash and weapons Friday morning.

“This is a major arrest,” Chief Walter Armstrong said after he and about a dozen officers searched the home of Jeffery Kennedy, 34, 215 Bluecreek Drive, off Grange Hall Road. “This is a good example of what community involvement needs to be.”

Complaints of drug activity in the area led to Kennedy’s arrest around 10:30 a.m. Friday, Armstrong said. Kennedy is charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to sell.

During the raid, police found cocaine and marijuana with a street value of $10,000 to $12,000, $15,000 in cash, as well as guns — a Tec-9 semiautomatic gun, a Hi-point .45 caliber pistol and a Clarke .32 caliber revolver.

A K-9 officer was used to search the home and drugs were found in the kitchen and bedroom, and weapons found under a mattress, Armstrong said.

“Drugs are the evil of all communities and until we can get rid of it, drugs will continue to bring the community down,” Armstrong said.

Kennedy was released from the Warren County Jail on $30,000 bond.

“This is one of the major busts of the year,” Armstrong said. “This will definitely put a dent in the local drug trade.”
