Barbara Sartorius Wasserman

ATLANTA — Barbara Sartorius Wasserman, 87, of Atlanta, died Dec. 29, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Temple Sinai Atlanta.

Mrs. Wasserman was a descendent of Earl Sartorius (father), Jacob Sartorius (grandfather) and Philip Sartorius (great-grandfather), all residents of Vicksburg dating as far back as 1843. When immigrating to America, Philip Sartorius brought with him a Torah scroll from Germany. He donated it to Vicksburg synagogue Anshe Chesed, where it still remains in use today.

Mrs. Wasserman was born in New York City and moved to Atlanta in 1950.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maurice Wasserman; and adoring daughter, Lyn Wasserman.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Susan Wasserman; and grandchildren, David Wasserman, Alex Deitch and Samantha Deitch, all of Atlanta, and Beth Johnson of Dallas, Texas.
