A Jackson man who robbed a woman at gunpoint last summer and then used her bank card to pay his cell phone bill was sentenced in Warren County Circuit Court this week to 20 years in prison.
Daniel Terrel Hersh, 26, 824 Lawrence Road, pleaded guilty to armed robbery Thursday before Judge M. James Chaney.
Court documents show that on July 24 around 7 p.m., Hersh, after losing money at a Vicksburg casino, drove to Pemberton Square, flashed a handgun at a mall employee who had just exited the building and took her purse. In addition to paying his phone bill, Hersh used the stolen card to buy gas. More than $200 in cash that had been in the purse was not recovered.
Hersh, represented by Jackson attorney Christopher Graves, had previous convictions and was sentenced as a habitual offender. He was also ordered to pay $322.50 in court costs and state assessments.
