Alice Swayze Rigby

BATON ROUGE — Alice Swayze Rigby died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Lakewood Quarters in Baton Rouge. She was 91.
Mrs. Rigby was born in Yazoo County and had lived in Baton Rouge for the past six years. She was a retired school teacher with more than 37 years, many of which were spent at Eliza Fox Elementary. She was a Navy veteran, serving from 1943 to 1946 as a Corpsman, 2nd class, in the Hospital Corps in occupational therapy. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was part of the Aliene Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Rigby.
Survivors include four sons, John Wilbur Rigby of Savannah, Ga., Richard Hugh Rigby of Sugarland, Texas, Dr. Carl Swayze Rigby of Baton Rouge and William Lawson Rigby of Jackson; a daughter, Betty Jane Giles of Roswell, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Tim Brown and Dick Swayze officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park with Glenwood Funeral Home in charge. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until the service.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Rigby, Richard Rigby, Chad Rigby, Boyce Rigby, Hunter Giles and Keith Kellum.
