Betty Smith Monk

Betty Smith Monk died Thursday, Nov.11, 2010, at the Regency Hospital in Jackson. She was 72.

Mrs. Monk was born in Jefferson County and had been a resident of Vicksburg for over 50 years. She was a homemaker, baker and member of Wayside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Monk, in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda R. Monk of New Bern, N.C.; two sons, Thomas Wayne Monk of Vicksburg and Tony B. Monk of New Albany; a sister, Georgia Cox of Edwards; a brother, Johnnie H. Smith of Fayette; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Wooley officiating. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Mike Cox, Robert Monk, Bradley Monk, Wayne Monk, Tom Smith, Pat Lee Parker, Johnny Smith, Van Smith, Mark Dement and Marty Dement.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Davis, Gillis McMahon, Talmadge Steed and deacons of Wayside Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Wayside Baptist Church.
