Intermittent lane closures for construction on the Interstate 20 bridge over the Mississippi River will begin Monday, affecting both eastbound and westbound outside lanes, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced.
Lane closures will be in effect for about three weeks. Vehicles 12 feet wide and smaller will be able to pass through the construction zone.
Wider loads requiring up to 18 feet of horizontal clearance will be able to pass each Friday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Drivers are asked to be on the lookout for work crews and equipment.
Mount Olive M.B. reaching to neighbors
The four-member missionary society of Mount Olive M.B. Church on Baldwin Ferry Road will sponsor an adoption program today aimed at encouraging residents of Baldwin Ferry Road from Mission 66 to Clay Street to attend Sunday Bible classes and services.
“We need this so we can get to the people and let them know we can help them,” said Sarah Wilson, the society’s treasurer.
“I think children need to be in Sunday school to be good citizens,” she said. “We’re small, but we’re working to bring people to church.”
Former Vicksburg alderman Gertrude Young will speak at the program, set for 3 p.m. at the church, followed by a dinner.
The event is open to the public.
It was incorrectly reported Saturday that the church had an anniversary celebration scheduled for today.
