PORT GIBSON — Helen L. Compton died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 69.
Mrs. Compton was a member and usher at China Grove M.B. Church in Port Gibson, where she had served as president of the Usher Board. She had worked at National Plastics as an inspector for 37 years and at Sack and Save for five years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Hunter and Mary Stewart; an aunt who reared her, Essie Malone; a son, Terry Earl Compton; two brothers, Will T. Sanders and Albert Malone; and two sisters, Flora Reed and Loretta Thompson.
Survivors include one son, Bryan Compton of Port Gibson; one daughter, Gale Compton of Port Gibson; a grandson she adopted, JeKuayvious Martin Compton of Port Gibson; two brothers, Charles Stewart of Port Gibson and Gerald Salaam of Los Angeles; three sisters, Tarvie Washington of New Orleans, Eloise Bailey of Baton Rouge and Bernice Felton of Fayette; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives, including Sandra Sanders of Fayette, Elaine Reed-Pinckney of Lawrenceville, Ga., Stacy Bolin of Vicksburg and Lionel Reed of Jonesboro, Ga.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at China Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 today at Thompson Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.
