A Vicksburg bank was robbed at gunpoint this morning, and officials were looking for a man dressed in black.
The Trustmark branch at 1020 Mission 66, near the intersection with Grove Street, was hit at about 10:05, Sgt. Penny Branch of the Vicksburg Police Department said.
An undetermined amount of money was taken, she said. No injuries were reported.
Vicksburg police dogs were taken to the site immediately and used to sniff in woods just west of the bank.
One report was the suspect, described as black, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-11 and about 180 pounds, fled west from the bank on foot and got into a mid-size gray car that went east on Grove. No description of the gun was reported.
The bank was closed immediately, and officers were interviewing bank employees and customers. It was not known how many people were in the bank at the time of the robbery.
At least three canine units were at the site late this morning, and officers from the Vicksburg Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office were searching for the robber.
The bank robbery is the first in the city this year. Two were reported in 2009 and three were reported in 2008.
Trustmark Bank operates six branches in Vicksburg.
