Hester James Qualls Sr. Mary Lean Qualls

PATTISON — Hester James Qualls Sr. died hours after his wife, Mary Lean Qualls, on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010.
Mr. Qualls died at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 79. Mrs. Qualls died at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 81.
Mr. Qualls was a lifelong resident of Claiborne County and was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean War. He later was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg and retired in 1992.
Mrs. Qualls was a native of Wisner, La., and lived most of her life in Claiborne County.
They were married 37 years, and both attended Brandy Wine Methodist Church in later years.
Both are survived by three daughters, Jeanette Trahern of Baskin, La., Doris Shelton of Pattison and Darlene Swann of Celina, Texas; two sons, Hester Qualls Jr. of Fort Bragg, N.C., and William Floyd Compton Jr. of Wisner; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Additionally, Mrs. Qualls is survived by three sisters, Helen Stewart of Tickfaw, La., Dorothy Parker of Sicily Island, La., and Bertha Roberts of Wisner; and four brothers, Vancey Ogden and Charles Ogden, both of Sicily Island, Nolan Ogden of Rifleman, Colo., and Donnie Ogden of Liddleville, La.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Port Gibson with the Rev. Mike Assink officiating. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lavon Parker, Chris Sanders, Dustin Shelton, Lance McCleary, Les Parker, Gene Trahern, Gene Hilliard and Jim Cassell Jr.
