Sight of weapon nearby prompts lockdown at school

A momentary scare near campus prompted officials at Redwood Elementary School to order a brief lockdown Tuesday morning.
No one was injured or threatened, but precautions were taken until any possible risk could be determined, said principal Randy Broome.
“It gave us an opportunity to go through our safety procedures,” Broome said. “Every school in the country has lockdown procedures, and we do practice ours from time to time to make sure we have all our ducks in a row.”
Several Warren County deputies responded to the call from the school around 10:30 a.m. after two cafeteria workers taking an outside break off school property were approached by the property owner, said Sheriff Martin Pace.
The man was armed but did not draw the weapon, Pace said.
School resumed normal activities, including students going outside with teachers, in about 20 minutes.
