This is in response to letters from Tina Rowland, June 9, and Ragan Hunter, June 13, who were responding to letters from Sue Tolbert, Betty Smith, and Frank Crump, Jr., June 6, about rudeness, chaos, cow bells, horns, batting balloons, screams, shouts, etc., throughout the graduation exercises at Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School.

In all due respect, I think Ms. Rowland and Mr. Hunter both missed the whole point. What Ms. Tolbert, Ms. Smith, and Mr. Crump were saying was follow simple instructions or rules and show some dignity. When someone tells you to remain seated and be quiet until the end of a program that is exactly what they mean.

The faculty and administration had a reason for giving those instructions or they wouldn’t have done it in the first place. Whatever happened to the days of following rules of etiquette, and having respect for our fellow man?

The people who were creating the chaos were not the only people there! Others came to see their family graduate too, but weren’t able to hear their names called out due to the actions of those who refused to abide by the rules.

There was no mention that a graduate, or his/her family, should not be proud or excited about their achievements at graduation, everyone usually is. All that was said was follow simple instructions and rules or orders that are given.

I agree with Mr. Crump who couldn’t have said it better. Next year the school should give graduating seniors and their families a code of conduct to follow and if they can’t follow it then the abusers should be ejected immediately and receive his or her diploma in the mail. Great idea Mr. Crump!

Let’s see if the schools will follow up on your idea. It’s a crying shame when drastic measures must be taken because of the actions of a few people that don’t know how to act.
