Billy Gene Moore

Billy Gene Moore died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at his home. He was 79.
Mr. Moore was born in Vicksburg. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station in 1987 after 32 years of federal employment collectively. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and the U.S. Air Force. In the late 1960s, he created B&M Janitorial Service and, in the early ’70s, he formed B&G Rental. He was a devout Catholic, attending St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the Esquire Social Club and American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Moore and William Walter Faulkner; a daughter, Connie Smith; brothers, William Walter “Peter” Moore and Robert E. Moore Sr., who passed on Sept. 29, 2010, in Oakland, Calif.
He is survived by four children, caretakers Kelwin “Mo” Moore and wife Akemi, daughter Vicki R. Moore (David) of Vicksburg, son Billy G. Stewart (Karen) of Hope Mills, N.C., and son George Lewis (Marie) of Palmdale, Calif.; his brother, John P. Moore (Judith) of San Jose, Calif.; his sister, Shirley Moore Hoskins of Pittsburg, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, including Jeanette Jordden, Lee Moore, Julia Smith, Velma Woodson, James Brown, Alda Thomas, Thelma Gaskin; and the Hoskins, Stewart, Slaughter, Evans and Clark families.
Rosary is scheduled for Wednesday from 6 until 7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Malcolm O’Leary will preside over both services.
