KOSCIUSKO — Cora Mai Webster McGee, 98, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at The Myrtles Nursing Center in Columbia, Miss. Visitation is at noon today at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services are at 1 today at the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Parkway Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Dr. Bryant Barnes, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Columbia, will officiate the service.
Cora was an active member of the Kosciusko First United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women and the Hattie Kelly Sunday school class. She was, at the time of her death, the oldest living member of the Rob Morris Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She had been a member of the Mississippi Extension Homemakers Council and served as president of the Kosciusko Morning Club for many years, also a charter member. She loved playing Rook and was a member of two rook clubs in her earlier years. She also participated in the RSVP volunteer program.
Her passionate hobby was flower gardening. She also enjoyed sewing for her girls and cooking. She was featured as the first guest Star cook in the Kosciusko Star Herald and was also a featured cook in an earlier Mississippi Home Extension magazine, The Mississippi Farmer. She was an avid collector of recipes. She enjoyed being a faithful wife, mother, and friend and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Guyla Rebecca McGee Gould and husband Don of Vicksburg and Cora Gayle McGee Knight and husband Robert Allen of Columbia; two grandsons and their families, Allen Guyton Knight and wife Emily and children, Elizabeth, Will and Robert, Andrew Knight and wife Michelle and children, Troy, Macy, Abby, and Sadie; sister, Vira Webster Oakes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guyton Harris McGee; parents, Beula Irene Cook Webster and Daniel C. Webster; a brother, Henry Webster; and a sister, Annie Webster Powell.
Pallbearers are Don Gould, Robert Allen Knight, Allen Knight, Rob Knight, Troy Knight, Kermit Campbell, Drew Chandler, Tobey Hughes, Ralph Rone Jr. and Leon Thrash.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Herrington III, Jack Brunt, Billy Brooks, Blair Goza, James Gould, Tommy Oakes, Danny Oakes, Bobby Oakes and James Henry Oakes.
Memorials may be sent to the donor’s favorite charity.
