Ashmead chapter takes home honors

At the Mississippi State Daughters of the American Revolution conference, Vicksburg’s Ashmead chapter received more than 30 awards, including the following first place nods:

• Increase in membership.

• Promoting women’s issues.

• Commemorative events.

• Outstanding promotion of national defense objectives.

• National defense editorial.

• Money donated to the MSSDAR Genealogical Library at Rosalie Mansion in Natchez.

• Best chapter report on American heritage.

The chapter also received the Super Achievers Award for gaining 10 or more new members by application, and Ashmead member Melody Golding, a photographer, was honored with a women’s issues award for the book, “Katrina: Mississippi Women Remembered.”

Volunteer Information Specialists’ certificates for outstanding use of computer for DAR activities were awarded to Dr. Mary Landin, Joylin D. Simpson and Linda Davis.

Davis also received first place for her membership essay and second place for her entry to the membership photo contest.

The Junior American Citizens Club, sponsored by Ashmead, won first place for its entry to the Community Service contest and will compete at the division level for a national award.
