JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — State wildlife officials have approved a November primitive weapon deer season to be held in November.
Approval came Monday by the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The primitive weapons season will run from Nov. 8 to Nov. 19, for antlerless deer only.
The commission also created a special archery season from Nov. 20-Jan. 19 to coincide with gun seasons on deer.
The decision came after the attorney general’s office issued an opinion that wildlife officials had no authority to allow archery equipment during gun seasons on deer under current regulations.
The same opinion said that officials could create seasons under certain situations, including helping curb growing deer populations.
