Tyson Spire-Sweet, right, an engineer with Transystem, looks down Friday afternoon on equipment being set up for replacement of the bridge at Washington and Clark streets. Work is set to begin Monday, he said. The 80-year-old span, a key link between downtown and Interstate 20, has been closed since January 2009. An $8.6 million contract with Kanza Construction for the project was inked in June, and work is set to end in 12 months.
