Billye Halbert Jones

Billye Halbert Jones died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.

Born in Palestine, Ark., Mrs. Jones had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 10 years. She was the daughter of the late William Henry Halbert and Gladys Gunter Halbert.

She was a graduate of Mississippi College, where she received a master’s degree in education. She taught in the Long Beach, Miss., School District before retiring and owned Jones’ One Stop in Gulfport for a number of years. She was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Coats of Gulfport; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Acres Memorial Park with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
