Ernest L. Self Sr.

Mr. Ernest L. Self Sr. died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 84.
Born in Sennett, Mo., he was the son of the late Oscar Self and Flora McCarver Self. Mr. Self was a retired carpenter and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He was recipient of several Purple Heart medals and other service medals. During his military service he served in Iwo Jima and, for a period of time, was a gunner on the USS Biloxi.
Mr. Self was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Nina S. Lick (Gary) of Vicksburg; a son, Ernest L. Self Jr. (Nancy) of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren, Melissa Madura, Gary Lick Jr., Austin Self, Ashley Self, Chris Self and Scott Poole; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marolyn Green of Monroe, La.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Watson Self; a daughter, Rita Hill: three sisters, Audrey Brewer Lee, Sue Ogle and Darlene Myers; and two brothers, Claude Self and Mac Allen Self.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry White, pastor of Bowmar Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:30 until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Gary Lick, Rodney Ogle, Gary Lick Jr., Richard Muirhead and Paul Lick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sta-Home Health and Hospice.
